Anthony Barry has been named as the new assistant coach of the Republic of Ireland Men's Senior National Team working alongside Stephen Kenny and the rest of the backroom staff.
The controversial resignation of the previous assistant coach and Irish football veteran, Damien Duff, left an open vacancy within the Republic of Ireland camp. Current member of Chelsea's coaching team, Anthony Barry, successfully grabbed himself a spot alongside Stephen Kenny, Keith Andrews and the rest of the team.
After doing some background research on Barry, we feel the recent experience he has working alongside two internationally renowned managers will help give Stephen Kenny that extra confidence boost going into the World Cup Qualifiers later this month. The opening game against Serbia will be a massive test for the side and especially after previous poor results, confidence is what Ireland need.
Barry managed to strike a position in the Chelsea ranks during the recent Frank Lampard reign. Fortunately, his contract remained in place even with the departure of Lampard allowing a working relationship between himself and current Chelsea coach, Thomas Tuchel, to be formed. Barry will be aiming to work efficiently with both the Republic Ireland and Chelsea.
Personally, we think Barry is a great substitute for Duff which will not only benefit the boys in green but also his own coaching CV.
We, Pitchside Guide would like to wish Anthony Barry the best of luck with his new role with the Republic of Ireland!
